OUTDOOR Family Storytime ~ Tuesdays @ 10:30 am
If the sun in shining, join us at the Pleasant Hills Arboretum to sing, dance, and read stories together while enjoying the beautiful outdoors! If the weather is less than ideal, storytime will be held inside the Pleasant Hills Public Library. Check the Library’s Facebook page for updates. The Pleasant Hills Arboretum is located at 181 West Bruceton Road.

Baby Book Nook ~ Wednesdays @ 10:30 am
Nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more!
Geared towards children birth - 2 years old, with a caregiver.

TOT Time ~ Thursdays @ 10:30 am
Learn and grow with stories, songs, rhymes, and more!
Geared towards children 2 - 4 years old, with a caregiver.

Family Craft Night: Spring Pointillism Pictures ~ Monday, May 9 @ 6:30 pm
Are you feeling crafty but don't want to deal with the mess at home? Join us at the library for a fun family painting adventure! Ms. Dani will walk you through step-by-step in the creation of your own tape resist watercolor painting. You can make your name, your initial, various shapes, and many more cool designs with the easy painting technique! Fun for the whole family! Registration is limited AND required.

Zoom Book VS. Movie ~ Monday, May 23 @ 6:00 pm
Grab some snacks and join us on Zoom for a fun chat and a movie! Read Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh as a family then join us as we stream the movie adaptation together. Afterwards, we'll talk about what we liked and didn't like, and most importantly, which was better! Recommended for families with children ages 5 and up. Registration is required.

Lego Club Extravaganza ~ Thursday, May 26 @ 4:00 pm
Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us on the last Thursday of the month! Build whatever you want with our Lego and when you’re done, we’ll put it up on display for all to enjoy. For children ages 3 and up. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun! Space is limited so please try to arrive on time.

Spring Craft Drop-In Extravaganza ~ Saturday, April 9 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Stop in the Children's Department anytime between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm to make a few Spring themed crafts! We'll have various stations of crafts to explore and create, including a bunny stamp, peek-a-boo chick puppet, handprint flowers, and much more! Fun for the whole family! No registration required - just show up ready for fun!

JUST ADDED!! ~ Read to a Rabbit ~ Saturday, April 9 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm
Practice your reading skills while enjoying the company of some hopping friends! Rabbit Wranglers, a local rabbit fostering non-profit group, will be here with some happy hares you can read aloud to! Make a few crafts while waiting for your turn. For children ages 4 and up — reading ability encouraged but not required. Registration is limited AND required.

Learn how to make no-sew bunnies, dogs, and other cute animals using socks! Feel free to bring along a few fun patterned socks that have lost their matches to use. But if you don't have any, don't worry - we'll have lots of plain socks you can choose from! For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Registration is limited AND required.

After-School STEAM: Squishy & Salty Circuits ~ Thursday, April 21 @ 4:00 pm
Explore the world of electricity using science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics by creating various types of circuits. We'll make circuits using squishy materials, salt, and much more! For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Registration is limited AND required.

Tail Waggin' Tutors ~ Monday, April 25 @ 7:00 pm
Practice your reading skills while enjoying the company of some furry friends! Trained therapy dogs will be here hoping to hear a story or two from you! Make a few crafts while waiting for your turn. For children ages 4 and up — reading ability encouraged but not required. Registration is limited AND required.

Lego Club Extravaganza ~ Thursday, April 28 @ 4:00 pm

Sit back and relax as Ms. Dani reads Winnie-the-Pooh, written by A. A. Milne, aloud to you! Tune in every week for another chapter. Listen to past chapters, and previous Classic Chapters series, on YouTube!

PJ Family Storytime: If You Give a Cat a Cupcake... ~ Monday, March 7 @ 7:00 pm
Do you like to eat cupcakes? What about cake? Join us for stories, songs, and a fun take-home craft all about cake and cupcakes! Fun for the whole family! Registration is limited AND required. 

Family Craft Night: Paint Chip Mosaics ~ Monday, March 14 @ 6:30 pm
Are you feeling crafty but don't want to deal with the mess at home? Join us at the Library for a fun family crafting adventure! Ms. Dani will walk you through step-by-step in the creation of your own paint chip flower mosaic picture. Fun for the whole family! Registration is limited AND required.

After-School STEAM: Leprechaun Traps ~ Thursday, March 17 @ 4:00 pm
Use your best engineering skills to create a colorful trap in hopes of catching a Leprechaun this St. Patrick's Day! Feel free to bring along any recyclables you'd like to use as the base for your trap; tissue boxes work great. For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Registration is limited AND required.

Kids Create: Paper Flowers ~ Thursday, March 24 @ 4:00 pm
Spring is finally here! Celebrate the arrival of Spring by creating a bouquet of paper flowers that will never wilt. For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Registration is limited AND required.

Round Hill Park is located at 651 Round Hill Rd, Elizabeth, PA 15037. The Harmony House Shelter is the last shelter on the main road. Family program—weather permitting. New Year, New Fun!

Our weekly storytimes return in January! 
Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays, starting January 7 @ 10:30 am & 1:30 pm - for children ages 3 1/2 - 6 years old, with or without a caregiver.

Baby Book Nook - Wednesdays, starting January 8 @ 10:30 & 11:30 am - for children ages birth - 2 years old, with a caregiver.

TOT Time - Thursdays, starting January 9 @ 10:30 am - for children ages 2 - 3 1/2 years old, with  a caregiver.

We're also offering more STEAM programs in 2020!
(What's STEAM you ask? Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics)

Family Building Workshop - Monday, January 13 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm - What can you build? Work together to create amazing structures at stations set-up with different materials. We’ll have a large variety of materials available for you to explore and build with including Lincoln logs, magna tiles, toilet rolls, K’NEX, toothpicks, newspaper, Lego’s, and so much more! Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Preschool STEAM: Junior Robotics - Wednesday, January 22 from 1:30 - 2:30 pm - Explore the world of robotics using science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. We’ll start with a story then move around to various hands-on learning stations. For children ages 2—6, with a caregiver. Please register!

After-School STEAM: Exploring Circuity - Monday, January 27 from 4:30 - 5:30 pm - How do circuits work? Play and learn with hands-on exploration and building with snap circuits and more! For children in grades 1—5. Please register!

**Please note that the Library will close at 5 pm on November 27. The Library will be closed November 28 & 29.

While we don't offer our weekly storytimes in December, we do offer several wonderful seasonal programs! 

PJ Family Storytime: A Snowy Day - Monday, December 2 @ 7:00 pm - Join us for snowy stories, silly songs, a cool craft, and a delicious snack. Wear your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun! Family program - registration requested but not required. Click HERE to register.

Teen Christmas Cookies & Cards - Thursday, December 5 @ 3:30 pm - Make holiday cards to share joy with local nursing home residents and decorate some cookies to take home! A $2 donation per person is requested and collected at the event. For teens in grades 6 - 12. Registration requested but not required. Click HERE to register.

Annual Family Winter Holiday Celebration - Monday, December 9 @ 6:30 pm - Celebrate the winter holidays in style at the Library! Enjoy games, crafts, and snacks from 6:30 - 7:30. Storytime, complete with a visit from the man in red, will start around 7:30! Don't forget to bring your camera! A $2 donation per child and 1/2 dozen cookies per family is requested and will be collected at the event. Family program - please register! Click HERE to register.

Family Storytime at Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market - Monday, December 16 @ 1:30 pm - Join Ms. Dani in the Fresh Thyme Cafe for stories, songs, a craft, and a delicious snack! This program will take place at Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market located at 665 Clairton Blvd (Route 51). Family program - no registration necessary, just show up ready for fun!

Winter Animals with the Allegheny County Park Rangers - Monday, December 16 @ 6:30 pm - How do local animals adapt to our cold winter climate? Some move away, some sleep through it, and some tough it out! Find out who does what with the Allegheny County Park Rangers as we learn all about local wildlife! Family program - space is limited so please register! Click HERE to register.

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, December 18 @ 4:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us! After we're done, we'll put your creations up on display! For children ages 4 and up - no registration necessary, just show up ready for fun!

Celebrate the Holidays with Barbie - Thursday, December 19 @ 6:00 pm - Susan and Kim Fancsali return to share their extensive Holiday Barbie collection and knowledge! There will also be a fun holiday craft! All ages welcome - space is limited and required. Click HERE to register.

BOO! Spooky & silly fun at your library!

Happy October! 

It's time for our 
3rd Annual Literary Pumpkin Decorating Contest!!


Work alone or as a group to decorate a pumpkin, real or fake, to look like your favorite literary character using any materials you'd like (but please NO CARVING)! Please bring your pumpkins into the Library between October 1 - October 29, 2019. Pumpkins will be displayed throughout the Library for all the enjoy! Staff members will announce winners on October 30.

A $1 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. For children ages 2-5, with a caregiver. Please register!

Teen Halloween Tricks & Treats - Thursday, October 24 @ 3:30 pm - Come make yourself some SCARY good treats! We'll be watching our favorite Halloween shows while making some chocolate covered pretzels to enjoy! A $2 donation per person is requested and will be collected at the event. For teens in grades 6-12. Registration is requested but not required. 

Annual Family Halloween Spectacular - Saturday, October 26 @ 6:30 pm - Boo! Wear your costume for a truly spooktacular after-hours evening at the Library! We'll start by sharing not-so-scary stories then make some sinister crafts, play a handful of mysterious games, and gobble up some frighteningly yummy snacks! Play games while you trick-or-treat around the Library! At the end, prizes will be awarded for most creative costume in different age categories. A $3 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. **Library doors will open at 6:15 pm** Family program. Please register!

This September, show your Library some LOVE!

September Is Love Your Library Month

All Allegheny County libraries are inviting residents to participate in a fundraising effort to support their local library. Thanks to the generosity of the Jack Buncher Foundation, all donations made to the Pleasant Hills Library in the month of September will be MATCHED on a pro-rated basis up to $500 per donor.

During the month of September, receive a raffle ticket for every children’s and family program you attend and enter to win a pair of tickets to either the Citizens Bank Children’s Theater Series or the EQT Bridge Theater Series! 
This contest runs from September 3—30, 2019. Winners will be notified Tuesday, October 1, 2019.

Tiny Astronauts - Families with babies and toddlers can ear a set weekly prize for reading together! This SRC is recommended for children ages birth - 2 years old.

Listening Stars - Children not  yet reading confidently on their own earn a raffle ticket* for every 10 books they listen to or read on their own to be used towards any of our awesome children's raffle prizes. Complete an activity bingo board to earn even more raffle tickets! Earn an instant prize for each library visit**! This SRC is recommended for children ages 3 - 6 years old.

Reading Rockets - Children reading on their own, up through going into 5th grade, earn a raffle ticket* for every hour spent reading to be used towards any of our awesome children's raffle prizes. It's almost time for SUMMER READING CLUB!!!!

This year we're celebrating NASA's 60 years of achievement and the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing with our Universe of Stories Summer Reading Club!

We're hosting our annual Kick-off party at the Library on Saturday, June 8th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm!
Join us for variety of galactic games, make a few cool space crafts, get your picture taken with characters from a galaxy far, far away and enjoy delicious snacks including a make-your-own ice cream sundae station*!! Hole-in-One Mini-Golf in the Library Fundraiser
Sunday, February 17 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm
Play mini-golf inside the Library and help the Library raise “green fees” at the same time! It will be a full 18-hole course for teams of up to 5; teams will play in the order that they arrive, with the last team starting at 6:45 p.m. Pizza and other yummy refreshments will be available in our “19th Hole Lounge” as well as fun family games to help pass the time in case your team has to wait to play. Cost: $7 for each adult player, $4 for each child 3-10 years old. Money will be collected at the door, which will open at 5:00 pm. Registration is highly recommended for this popular event and can be done by visiting the Library, calling 412-655-2424 or online here.

Preschool STEAM: I Can Build That!

It's a new year and programs are back in full swing! 


Weekly storytimes are BACK! 
Weekly storytimes start January 8th and run through April. Plenty of time to join the fun!

Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays, starting January 8th at 10:30 am & 1:30 pm - Explore different themes through stories, songs, a craft, and a snack! For children ages 3 1/2 - 6 years old, with or without a caregiver.
*Join Pleasant Hills Mayor Bill Trimbath for a special storytime on Tuesday, January 15th at 10:30 am!

Baby Book Nook - Wednesdays, starting January 9th at 10:30 & 11:30 am - Nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more! For children birth - 2 years old, with a caregiver.

TOT Time - Thursdays, starting January 10th at 10:30 am - Learn and grow with stories and songs, finger plays, a craft and a snack! For children ages 2 - 3 1/3 years old, with a caregiver.

We Are All Neighbors Potluck Dinner ~ Thursday, January 10 at 6:00 pm ~ Come enjoy a potluck dinner at the library! Enjoy a meal in good company and get some new ideas to try at home. January is National Soup Month so bring your favorite soup along with copies of the recipe to share. The library will provide beverages, rolls, bowls and cutlery. Plan to bring your soup in a crockpot to keep it warm! All ages welcome! Please register by calling or stopping in the library and provide our

Introduction to KinderFlute ~ Monday, January 14 at 6:30 pm ~ Join KinderFlute instructor Katie Shesko for a free introductory class designed to teach children to love music while also learning how to play a flute. Through learning to listen, producing a beautiful tone, reading music, composing, and creatively expressing themselves, students are firing areas of the brain to make learning in all areas more productive. Movement and games are a major component of what makes learning the flute through KinderFlute effective! Recommended for families with children ages 4 and up. Please register!

Preschool STEAM: Snow Science ~ Wednesday, January 16 from 1:30 — 2:15 pm ~   Winter is here! Explore snow and other winter weather using science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Happy FALL!

The Pleasant Hills Public Library is happy to announce the 2nd Annual Literary Pumpkin Decorating Contest! 

Decorate a pumpkin to look like your favorite book character using any materials you'd like (please NO CARVING). Work alone or as a group - fun for the whole family! Bring it to the Library starting October 1st but NO LATER than October 29th at 8:30 pm. Winners will be announced on October 30th and will receive a cool gift card!
