Fall 2020 Virtual Programs and more!

Although the library building is still closed to the pubic, we’re still here for YOU! 

Our current services include: 
*Outside pick-up service of library materials 
*Mobile printing to the library’s printers
*Virtual programming for all ages w/some outdoors events 
*Free Wi-Fi that reaches outside of the library

Tuesday Tales ~ Tuesdays, September 8—December 15 @ 1:30 pm
A NEW family storytime video will premiere every Tuesday, through December 15, on our Facebook page and YouTube channel for you to enjoy whenever works best for you! Ms. Dani will share stories, songs, rhymes, an early literacy tip or two, and offer a fun craft idea you can do with common supplies you have at home.


STEAM Stories ~ September 9 & 23, October 14 & 28, November 11 & 25, and December 9 & 23 @ 5:00 pm
Join us after-school to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics through stories and fun activities with these fun bi-monthly videos premiering on the 2nd and 4th Monday through December on our Facebook page and YouTube Channel. Take-home kits for each video will be available while supplies last. To reserve a kit, please email Ms. Dani.


Classic Chapters ~ Saturdays, September 12—November 28 @ 1:30 pm
Sit back and relax as Ms. Dani reads aloud to you! We will be continuing our series with Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There by Lewis Carroll. A new chapter will be added every week on our Facebook page and YouTube channel that you can enjoy whenever works best for you!


PJ Family Storytime ~ Mondays, September 14, October 5, November 2 & December 7 @ 7:00 pm
Relax in your PJs while enjoying stories and songs in these fun family storytime videos premiering on our Facebook page and YouTube channel! Take-home craft kits will be available as supplies last. To reserve a kit, please email Ms. Dani.

Zoom Book VS. Movie Club ~ Mondays, September 28, October 26 & November 30 @ 6:00 pm
Grab some snacks and join us on Zoom for a fun chat and a movie! Read a classic children’s book as a family then join us as we stream the movie adaptation. Afterwards, we’ll talk about what we liked and didn’t like, and most importantly, which was better! Registration is required to receive the Zoom meeting information. Upcoming Storytime Break


The Library will be closing at 5 pm on Wednesday, November 22. The Library will remain closed Thursday & Friday, November 23 & 24. Normal operating hours will resume on Saturday, November 25. 
We hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Our weekly storytimes will be taking a break in December.

Join in the fun happening at your Library this November!
Sock Creations - Monday, November 20 @ 4:00 pm - Do you have mismatched socks lying around? Bring them to the Library and transform them into a cool creature such as an octopus, rabbit, caterpillar, or penguin. For children and teens in grades 3 and up. Please register!

Which was Better: Book VS. Movie Family Book Club - Monday, November 27 @ 6:00 pm - Before our meeting, read The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling as a family. At the meeting, we’ll talk about the book and then we’ll watch the movie while snacking on popcorn and punch! After the movie we’ll talk about the similarities and differences, then decide which we liked better. Extra copies of each month’s title will be available for checkout at the circulation desk. Recommended for families with children ages 5 and up. Please register!

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, November 29 @ 4:00 pm -
Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us on the last Wednesday of every month! We'll have Legos you can use but feel free to bring your own. For children ages 3 and up. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Upcoming Storytime Break...

Our weekly storytimes will be taking a break in December....but don't worry! There's still tons of fun things to do at the library! And our weekly storytimes will resume in the New Year!

The Library will close at 5 pm on Wednesday, November 23. The Library will be closed Thursday & Friday, November 24 & 25. Normal hours resume on Saturday, November 26.

Anime Club - Thursdays, November 17 & December 15 @ 3:30 pm - Are you an anime fan? Join fellow enthusiasts as we watch anime and enjoy Japanese snacks! For students in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

No Bake Thanksgiving - Monday, November 21 @ 4:00 pm - Learn how to make tasty treats that don't require an oven just in time for Thanksgiving! We'll make apple pie in a cup, Nutella banana sushi, and chocolate turkey legs, just to name a few! Sample them while you're here and then take the recipes with you to try it again at home! A $2 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. For children in Kindergarten - 5th grade. Please register!

Let's Get Messy: A Painting Adventure - Monday, November 28 @ 2:30 pm - Explore the wonders of painting with non-traditional tools in this unique all ages program! Create multiple masterpieces with scented finger paint and unique painting tools such as toothbrushes, marbles, and cotton balls! Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Chick-fil-A Family Craft Night - Tuesday, November 29 @ 5:00 pm - Stop by Chick-fil-A on Route 51 to make a fun craft or two and enjoy a free kids 4 piece nugget or strip meal*! Drop by anytime between 5:00 - 7:00 pm. (*Free kids meal with purchase of adult combo or entree salad). This program will take place at Chick-fil-A Restaurant located at 461 Clairton Blvd (Route 51). Fun for the whole family! No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesdays, November 30 & December 28 @ 4:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us on the last Wednesday of every month! Build whatever you want and when you're done, we'll put it up on display! *The November meeting will meet outside the program room! While Miss Dani is away...

Miss Dani will be on maternity leave starting in November and returning in January. While she's gone, Miss Terry will be here and offering tons of fun programs you won't want to miss!

Baby & Toddler Lapsit - Wednesdays, November 4 - December 16 @ 10:30 am - Join Miss Terry for a special storytime just for our littlest of friend! Enjoy stories, songs, and other fun activities! Geared towards children ages birth - 2 1/2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Family Storytime - Wednesdays, November 4 - December 16 @ 1:30 pm - Enjoy storytime as a family! Join Miss Terry for stories, songs, other fun activities, and a snack! Geared towards children ages 2 1/2 - 6 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

*Some of our monthly programs will continue running. Some will take a short break. Check out below to see which ones we'll be offering in November and December!*
Evening Baby Book Nook - Tuesdays, November 3 & December 1 @ 7:00 pm - Join Miss Terry in the evening for nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more! For children ages birth - 2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Taco Tuesdays: Teen Book Discussion - Tuesdays, November 17 & December 15 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Bring a friend or two and join Miss Terry for lively discussion and delicious snacks. In November, we'll be reading Missing May by Cynthia Rylant. Check back soon for December's title! Request your copy of this month's selection at the circulation desk. For teens in grades 6 - 12. Please register!

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesdays, November 18 & December 16 from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us! We'll have Legos you can use, but feel free to bring your own too! All of our creations will be put up on display at the end of our session. For children ages 3 and up. Please register!

Family Holiday Celebration - Thursday, December 3 @ 6:30 pm - Celebrate the winter holidays at the library! Enjoy stories, games, crafts, snacks, and a special visit from the man in red! A $2 donation per child AND a half dozen cookies per family is requested and will be collected at the event.  Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Gingerbread House Workshop - Saturday, December 12 @ 11:00 am OR 2:00 pm - Let your creativity run wild while you use a variety of edible materials to decorate a pre-made gingerbread house! A $3 donation per house decorator is requested and will be collected at the event. Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We have so many things to be thankful for at the library! We're thankful for books, music, movies, magazines, puzzles, and all our other awesome library materials! We're thankful for our friends and families! We're thankful for our awesome staff! And of course, we're thankful for wonderful patrons like you! 

In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, the library will be closing at 5pm today (Wednesday, November 26) and remain closed through Friday, November 28. We will reopen on Saturday, November 29 at 9 am.

After all the celebrations are done, make sure to check out our awesome upcoming programs!

Teen Talk - Saturday, November 29 at 12:00 pm - Come hang out and stuff your face with pizza while playing games with friends! Bring a friend to join in the fun! For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Preschool STEM: Sort, Count, Weigh It Out - Monday, November 17 at 3:15 pm - Explore science, technology, engineering, and mathmatics  with stories and hands-on experiments designed to engage young minds. For children ages 2- 5, with a caregiver.

Chick-fil-A Family Craft Night - Tuesday, November 18 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm - Stop by Chick-fil-A on Route 51 to make a fun craft or two and enjoy a free kids 4 piece nugget or strip meal*! Drop by anytime between 5 - 7 pm. Fun for the whole family! Taco Tuesday: Middle School Book Group - Tuesday, November 18 at 6:00 pm - This month we'll be discussing The Grey King by Susan Cooper. Bring a book you are thankful for and are willing to swap along with a friend or two for lively discussion and delicious snacks! Request your copy of this month's selection at the circulation desk. For teens in grades 6 - 8. 

T-Shirt Design - Thursday, November 20 at 4:00 pm - Bring a blank t-shirt or tote bag and we'll provide all the tools and decorations you need to turn it into something awesome! For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade.

TAG - Monday, November 24 at 6:30 pm - Are you in need of volunteer hours? Interested in helping design library programs? If so, be sure to join TAG and be a part of something special! Each participant will receive one hour of community service and have the opportunity to earn more!  For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary.

What are you thankful for?

Here at Pleasant Hills Public Library, we're thankful for lots of things!
Good health, delicious food, an excellent community who loves and supports its library, and of course, books and people who love them! What about you?

Prepare yourself by testing your courage and strength with Capital games, crafts, food, and more! We'll have a trivia contest to see who amongst us could triumph over all! May the odds be ever in your favor.
 
Teen Craft: Cupcake Creations: Monday, November 25 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm - We'll provide the cupcakes and decorating supplies, you provide the creativity to turn them into edible artwork!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!




The Pleasant Hills Library Children's Area would like to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!!!

In honor of the holiday, we will be closing early today at 5 pm and remain closed Thursday and Friday, November 22nd and 23rd. We will reopen on Saturday, November 24th at 9 am.

After all the hustle and bustle of the holiday are over, and the last bite of turkey has been gobbled, join us for some fun and engaging programs! The following programs are coming up next week...Don't miss out!

*Teen Talk - Saturday, November 24th at 12:30 pm - Come for pizza, conversation and games! For students in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary.
