Happy FALL!

The Pleasant Hills Public Library is happy to announce the 2nd Annual Literary Pumpkin Decorating Contest! 

Decorate a pumpkin to look like your favorite book character using any materials you'd like (please NO CARVING). Work alone or as a group - fun for the whole family! Bring it to the Library starting October 1st but NO LATER than October 29th at 8:30 pm. Winners will be announced on October 30th and will receive a cool gift card!

Family Game Night - Monday, October 8th at 6:00 pm - Bring the whole family for a fun night of games, pizza, and fun! We'll have a variety of card, board, and video games to play together! Fun for the whole family! Please register.

3rd Annual Family Halloween Spectacular Party - Friday, October 26th at 6:00 pm - Do you dare come to the Library after-hours for a truly spooktacular evening? We’ll play games, make crafts, hear stories, and enjoy snacks! There will also be trick-or-treating complete with a costume contest, with different age categories and prizes! A $2 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. This is an after-hours program; Library doors will open at 5:45 pm. Fun for the whole family! Registration highly suggested.

Book VS. Movie Club - Monday, October 29th at 6:00 pm - Join us as we watch a movie based on a children's book every month! This month, we'll be watching the movie based on Matilda by Roald Dahl. After the movie, we'll discuss the book and decide which we liked better and why. Extra copies of each month's selection will be available for checkout at the circulation desk. Recommended for families with children ages 5 and up.

Costume Party Tail Waggin' Tutors - Monday, October 22nd from 7:00 - 8:00 pm - Come dressed up if you dare to read to trained therapy dogs! Practice your reading skills while enjoying the company of some furry, costumed friends! While waiting for your turn, you can also make some spooky and not-so-spooky crafts! For children ages 4 and up - reading ability encouraged but not required. Please register.
Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, October 24th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us! We'll have Legos you can use but feel free to bring your own. For children ages 3 and up. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

This September, show YOUR Library some LOVE!

September is LOVE YOUR LIBRARY month! Thanks to the generous support of the Jack Buncher Foundation, donations made to PLEASANT HILLS PUBLIC LIBRARY throughout the month of September will be MATCHED! This September, libraries across Allegheny County are inviting residents to participate in a special fundraising collaboration to show their Library some LOVE by supporting and investing in their libraries.

September is also National Library Card Sign Up Month! 
Children signing up for their first library card will receive a fun goody bag! 
Stop at the front desk to learn more!

During the month of September, receive a raffle ticket for every children’s and family program you attend and enter to win one of fifteen pairs of tickets to either the Citizens Bank Children’s Theater Series or the EQT Bridge Theater Series! This contest runs from September 4—28, 2018. Winners will be notified Monday, October 1, 2018.

Popular children’s book characters will be hidden throughout the children’s department during September. Find all of them to earn a small prize! See a staff member downstairs for more details.

Summer Reading is in full swing!


Summer Reading is in full swing! It's not to late to join in the fun! We have a reading club for EVERY AGE and READING ABILITY, from babies through adults! Libraries ROCK!
Stop in the Library to sign up and receive a fun goody bag!

Tiny Serenaders is for babies and toddlers, recommended ages 0 - 2. Children earn a set weekly prize just for being read to! Prizes include stickers, bubbles, a mini beach ball, and so much more!

Listening Musicians is for children not yet reading confidently on their own OR just learning how to read (recommended for ages 3 - 6). Children earn a raffle ticket* for every 10 books they listen to or read on their own. Complete activities on our literacy bingo board to earn even more raffle tickets! Earn an instant prize for each library visit**!

Reading Rock Stars is for children reading confidently on their own, up through going into 5th grade. Children earn a raffle ticket* for every hour they spend reading. Complete activities on our literacy bingo board to earn even more raffle tickets! Earn an instant prize for each library visit**!

Teen Readers going into grades 6 - 12 earn a raffle ticket * for every hour they spend reading. Complete activities on our literacy bingo board to earn even more raffle tickets! Earn an instant prize for each library visit**!

Adults can get in the fun too! Adults have five different ways they can earn raffle tickets*: attend any library program, write a review for a music cd, write a book review, complete an activity on the adult bingo board, or complete a music scramble worksheet! Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, May 30 @ 4:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us on the last Wednesday of every month! Family Fun:
PJ Family Storytime: 7 ate 9 - Monday, May 7 @ 7:00 pm - Why was 6 afraid of 7? Because seven eight (ate) nine! Join us for humorous number stories, songs, games, a numerical craft, and a scrumptious snack! Wear your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun! Please register!

Mom & Me Spa - Monday, May 14 @ 6:30 pm - Children are invited to bring their favorite woman to the Library for an exquisitie night of pampering! We'll make bath bombs, bath salts, and other spa essentials! Enjoy light refreshments while delighting in each other's company. A $2 donation per person is requested and will be collected at the event. Recommended for children ages 6 and up with a caregiver. Please register!

Family Building Workshop - Thursday, May 17 @ 11:00 am - Enjoy the day off of school at the Library! We'll have a variety of building materials on hand to explore and create with! Lincoln Logs, Magna-Tiles, marshmallows, toothpicks, paper tubes, and so much more! Recommended for families with children ages 2 and up. Please register!

Our Family Fort Night returns!!!
Join us for our 2nd Annual Family Fort Night on Friday, February 23 @ 6:00 pm for a truly unique Library experience! Come to the Library after-hours and build your own family fort! We'll start with some silly bedtime stories, then explore the Library to find the perfect spot for a reading nook! We'll read by the light of our flashlights and even play a few glow-in-the-dark games! Please bring any supplies you'd like to use such as blankets, pillows, and flashlights. This is an after-hours program - Library doors will open at 5:45 pm! Please register!

No-Sew Heart Pillows - Wednesday, February 14 @ 4:00 pm
- Learn how to make a heart-shaped pillow out of super soft fleece. Once the pillow is put together, we'll decorate it using puffy paint and fabric markers! Keep your pillow for yourself or give it to your Valentine! A $2 donation is requested and will be collected at the event. For children in grades 1 - 5. Please register!
