Libraries across Allegheny County have collaborated together to present a reading challenge for the whole family!

Find a cozy reading spot and see how much you can read or listen to

from January 1 until February 28, 2021!

Grab a cup of hot chocolate and challenge yourself to read some good books during the cold of winter! Log books, minutes, pages or days read and watch your points add up. All reading counts! All ages can participate! All participants throughout the county will have a chance to win one of 10 gift cards worth $25.

In addition to the county-wide prizes, Pleasant Hills participants will get a chance to win more amazing gift cards for local participants only! Also, your name will get added to a snowflake and displayed in our front windows! Take a winter stroll and see if you can find your name.

Storytime break and December fun!

Our weekly storytimes will be taking a short break starting November 21. All of our weekly storytimes will resume the first full week of January 2020! Mark your calendars now!

Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays, resuming January 7, 2020 @ 10:30 am & 1:30 pm

Baby Book Nook - Wednesdays, resuming January 8, 2020 @ 10:30 & 11:30 am

TOT Time - Thursdays, resuming January 9, 2020 @ 10:30 am

PJ Family Storytime: A Snowy Day - Monday, December 2 @ 7:00 pm - Join us for snowy stories, silly songs, a cool craft, and a delicious snack. Wear your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun! Family program - registration requested but not required. Click HERE to register.

Teen Christmas Cookies & Cards - Thursday, December 5 @ 3:30 pm - Make holiday cards to share joy with local nursing home residents and decorate some cookies to take home! A $2 donation per person is requested and collected at the event. For teens in grades 6 - 12. Registration requested but not required. Click HERE to register.

Annual Family Winter Holiday Celebration - Monday, December 9 @ 6:30 pm - Celebrate the winter holidays in style at the Library! Enjoy games, crafts, and snacks from 6:30 - 7:30. Storytime, complete with a visit from the man in red, will start around 7:30! Don't forget to bring your camera! A $2 donation per child and 1/2 dozen cookies per family is requested and will be collected at the event. Family program - please register! Click HERE to register.

Family Storytime at Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market - Monday, December 16 @ 1:30 pm - Join Ms. Dani in the Fresh Thyme Cafe for stories, songs, a craft, and a delicious snack! This program will take place at Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market located at 665 Clairton Blvd (Route 51). Family program - no registration necessary, just show up ready for fun!

Winter Animals with the Allegheny County Park Rangers - Monday, December 16 @ 6:30 pm - How do local animals adapt to our cold winter climate? Some move away, some sleep through it, and some tough it out! Find out who does what with the Allegheny County Park Rangers as we learn all about local wildlife! Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, December 18 @ 4:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us! After we're done, we'll put your creations up on display! For children ages 4 and up - no registration necessary, just show up ready for fun!

Celebrate the Holidays with Barbie - Thursday, December 19 @ 6:00 pm - Susan and Kim Fancsali return to share their extensive Holiday Barbie collection and knowledge! There will also be a fun holiday craft! All ages welcome - space is limited and required. Click HERE to register.

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesdays, February 26 & March 26 from 4:00 - 5:00 - Calling all Lego fans! Join our new Lego club! We'll meet the last Wednesday of every month and explore different building categories. We'll have Legos you can use, but feel free to bring your own too! For children ages 3 and up. Please register!

McClellan Library Early Literacy Night - Wednesday, Febrary 26 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Parents of young children in West Jefferson Hills are invited to join reading and language specialists for a special night of learning at McClellan Elementary. Learn strategies for reading to children from birth to age five and how reading affects early language development. Discover which programs at the Pleasant Hills Public Library are available for young children and hear suggestions for great books for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.  Free child care will be provided by the TJHS Interact Club. All are welcome to attend; interested parents need not have a student currently registered at McClellan to attend. *This program will take place at McClellan Elementary, located at 360 School Lane, Pleasant Hills.* Please register!

 

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! - Saturday, March 1 from 12:00 - 3:00 pm - We’re celebrating Read Across America with a special birthday party for Dr. Seuss! Enjoy games, crafts, snacks, and other fun activities from 12:00 — 2:15, with stories read by special guest readers from 2:15 — 3:00. Fun for the whole family!!!

 

NEW Evening Baby Book Nook - Tuesday, March 4 from 7:00 - 7:30 pm - Nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more! For children birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver.

 

Music Together FREE Family Music Class - Saturday, March 8 from 11:30 - 12:00 pm - SingSteps and the Pleasant Hills Public Library are celebrating "Sing With Your Child Month" with this free family music class. We will be singing and dancing along to songs from the Music Together collection. Space is limited so don’t delay! For children ages birth to 5, with a caregiver. Valentine's Candy Making - Wednesday, February 12th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Almost everyone loves candy! Do you? Learn how to make a variety of simple candies that you can give to your Valentine or keep for yourself! A $2 donation per child is requested. For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Please register!

Teen Advisory Group (TAG) - Monday, February 24th from 6:30 - 7:30 pm - Are you in need of volunteer hours? Interested in helping design library programs? Want your voice heard? If you answered yes to any of those questions, or perhaps you said no but are looking for something fun to do anyway, be sure to join TAG and be a part of something special! Each participant will receive one hour of community service and have the opportunity to earn more! We will be meeting in the TEEN AREA this month! For students in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary.

It's finally December! Winter is upon us! The holidays are creeping around the bend! Enjoy every moment of the season at the library! Join us for one or more of our fantastic programs happening this month!

Trim the Tree: Handmade Ornaments - Wednesday, December 4th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Learn how to make a plethora of really awesome handmade ornaments you can use to decorate your tree or home! Create unique holiday treasures that can be reused year after year! A $2 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. PLEASE REGISTER!

Deck the Halls: A Family Holiday Celebration - Thursday, December 5th at 6:30 pm - Help us decorate for the holidays! Join in the celebration of the holiday season with crafts, games, music, stories, snacks, and more! We'll even have a special visit from the man in red! Don't miss out on all the holiday fun! Chick-fil-A Family Craft Night - Tuesday, December 10th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm - Stop by Chick-fil-A on Route 51 to make a fun craft, play a silly game, and enjoy a free kids 4 piece nugget or strip meal!* Drop by anytime between 5 - 7 pm! Fun for the whole family! No registration necessary. (Free kids meal with purchase of adult combo or entrée salad) This program will take place at Chick-fil-A Restaurant located at 461 Clairton Blvd (Route 51).

Teen Advisory Group - Thursday, December 12th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Are you looking for volunteer hours? Interested in helping design library program? Then join TAG and be a part of something special! Each participant will receive 1 hour of community service and have the opportunity to earn more! Gingerbread House Workshop - Saturday, December 14th at 11:00 am & 1:00 pm - Let your creativity run wild while you use a variety of edible materials to decorate a pre-made gingerbread house! Teen Make-N-Take - Starting Monday, January 7th, check the teen area every weekfor a new fun make-n-take project! Don't panic if you can't make it Monday - projects will remain out all week! Projects will incorporate origami, recycled art, and duct tape craziness. For students in Grades 6-12. No regsitration necessary.
