Fall 2020 Virtual Programs and more!

Although the library building is still closed to the pubic, we’re still here for YOU! 

Our current services include: 
*Outside pick-up service of library materials 
*Mobile printing to the library’s printers
*Virtual programming for all ages w/some outdoors events 
*Free Wi-Fi that reaches outside of the library

Tuesday Tales ~ Tuesdays, September 8—December 15 @ 1:30 pm
A NEW family storytime video will premiere every Tuesday, through December 15, on our Facebook page and YouTube channel for you to enjoy whenever works best for you! Ms. Dani will share stories, songs, rhymes, an early literacy tip or two, and offer a fun craft idea you can do with common supplies you have at home.


STEAM Stories ~ September 9 & 23, October 14 & 28, November 11 & 25, and December 9 & 23 @ 5:00 pm
Join us after-school to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics through stories and fun activities with these fun bi-monthly videos premiering on the 2nd and 4th Monday through December on our Facebook page and YouTube Channel. Take-home kits for each video will be available while supplies last. To reserve a kit, please email Ms. Dani.


Classic Chapters ~ Saturdays, September 12—November 28 @ 1:30 pm
Sit back and relax as Ms. Dani reads aloud to you! We will be continuing our series with Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There by Lewis Carroll. A new chapter will be added every week on our Facebook page and YouTube channel that you can enjoy whenever works best for you!


PJ Family Storytime ~ Mondays, September 14, October 5, November 2 & December 7 @ 7:00 pm
Relax in your PJs while enjoying stories and songs in these fun family storytime videos premiering on our Facebook page and YouTube channel! Take-home craft kits will be available as supplies last. To reserve a kit, please email Ms. Dani.

Zoom Book VS. Movie Club ~ Mondays, September 28, October 26 & November 30 @ 6:00 pm
Grab some snacks and join us on Zoom for a fun chat and a movie! Read a classic children’s book as a family then join us as we stream the movie adaptation. Afterwards, we’ll talk about what we liked and didn’t like, and most importantly, which was better! Registration is required to receive the Zoom meeting information. With our closure from March - June due to Covid-19, our cataloging department has had to work overtime to get caught up with all our amazing new items. This list of new children's items is insane! It's over 12 pages long when printed out! There's sooooo many great titles, there's bound to be something for every young reader in your house!

Party at the Library!

March is finally here and we have soooooo many fun things happening at the Library! So many fun reasons to celebrate! We hope you can join us for one or all of these awesome upcoming programs!

Classic Cartoons - Thursday, March 1 @ 3:30 pm - Come relax after school and watch some old school classic cartoons. Enjoy popcorn while watching old favorites and making some new favorites. For students in grades 6—12. No registration necessary—just show up ready for fun!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! 
Saturday, March 3rd from 12:00 - 2:00 pm

Join us for our annual awesome finale celebration of Read Across America Week with a special birthday party for Dr. Seuss! Enjoy games, crafts, snacks, and other fun activities from 12:00 — 1:30, with stories read by special guest readers from 1:30 — 2:00.

PJ Family Storytime: In the Heart of the Jungle - Monday, March 5 @ 7:00 pm - What animals live in the jungle? Join us for stories, silly songs, fun games, a craft, and a delicious snack! Wear
your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun! Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Teen Games N@ - Thursday, March 8 @ 3:30 pm - Stuff your face with pizza and other delicious snacks while playing a wide variety of board, card, and Wii games while hanging out with friends. For students in grades 6—12. No registration necessary—just show up ready for fun!

Family Dance Party - Monday, March 12 @ 7:00 pm - It’s almost spring so let’s dance those winter blues away! We’ll dance to a variety of music, use fun props, try out some different instruments, and work up a sweat while having an awesome time dancing together. Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Leprechaun Traps - Wednesday, March 14 @ 4:00 pm - Make a colorful trap in hopes of catching your very own Leprechaun this St. Patrick’s Day! Feel free to bring along any recyclables you’d like to use in your trap; tissue boxes work great as traps! A $2 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. For children in Kindergarten—5th Grade. Please register!

Chapter Chat: Teen Book Club - Thursday, March 15 @ 3:30 pm - This month we’re reading The 5th Wave by Richard Yancey. Read the book prior to our meeting then come for lively discussion and snacks related to the book’s theme. Extra copies of each month’s title will be available at the circulation desk. For students in grades 6—12. Registration requested but not required.


Annual Family Egg Hunt Extravaganza - Sunday, March 18 @ 3:00 pm - A mischievous bunny has hidden eggs throughout the entire library and we need your help to find them! Join us for stories, games, crafts, snacks, and an extreme egg hunt! A $2 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. This is an after-hours program: Library doors will open at 2:45 pm! Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Teen Spa Night - Wednesday, March 21 @ 6:30 pm - Have you ever wanted to make your own bath bomb? Come to the Library to find out how! A $5 donation is requested and will be collected at the event. For students in grades 6—12. Please register by emailing Ms. Maria at inksm@einetwork.net

Friday, March 23 from 10:00 am — 8:00 pm - Stop by between 6:30—8:00 pm to do a fun craft with Miss Dani!
Saturday, March 24 from 10:00 am — 5:00 pm
Sunday, March 25 from 12:00 — 3:00 pm: Bag Sale! - Fill one of our boxes for $6, or one of our plastic bags for $3.
Friends of the Library Annual Used Book Sale will take place at the Pleasant Hills Borough Building located at 410 E. Bruceton Road.

Which was Better? Book VS. Movie Family Book Club - Monday, March 26 @ 6:00 pm - our meeting, read The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster as a family. We’ll talk about the book and then watch the movie while snacking on popcorn and punch! After the movie we’ll decide which we liked better and why. Extra copies of each month’s title will be available at the circulation desk. Recommended for families with children ages 5 and up. Please register!

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, March 28 @ 4:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us on the last Wednesday of every month! Build whatever you want and when you’re done we’ll put it up on display. For children ages 3 and up. No registration necessary—just show up ready for fun!

Hooray for Fall!

It's officially Fall, even though it doesn't really feel like it. We're excited anyway! We've got tons of awesome programs happening soon so make sure to check out our October Newsletter for more information.

We're excited to announce our FIRST EVER LITERARY PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST!!!
Decorate a pumpkin to look like your favorite book character using any materials you would like! Paint it, dress it, accessorize it...but PLEASE NO CARVING! Work alone or as a group (fun for the whole family). Bring your decorated pumpkin to the Library between October 2 - 30 during normal operating hours - there will be a brief form to fill out at drop off. Pumpkins will be put on display throughout the Library.

This contest is open to ALL AGES! Library staff will judge two winners - one individual and one group - on Halloween! Winners will be notified October 31st and will receive a $25 gift card.

PJ Family Storytime: Monster Bedtime! ~ Monday, October 2 from 7:00—7:45 pm
Even monsters need to go to bed sometime! We’ll share stories about monsters, sing silly songs, make a fun craft, and enjoy a delicious snack! Wear your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun! Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Teen Games N@ ~ Thursdays, October 5 & 12 from 3:30—4:30 pm 
Join us on the first and second Thursday of every month for games, snacks, and an awesome time! Stuff your face with pizza while playing games with your friends! We’ll bust out new and classic board games, card games, and the Wii! For students in grades 6—12. No registration necessary—just show up ready for fun!

Anime Club ~ Thursday, October 19 from 3:30 — 4:30 pm
Are you an anime fan? Join fellow enthusiasts on the third Thursday of every month as we watch anime and enjoy Japanese snacks! For students in grades 6—12. No registration necessary—just show up ready for fun!

2nd Annual Family Halloween Spectacular ~ Friday, October 20 at 6:00 pm
Boo! Wear you costume for a truly spooktacular after-hours evening at the library! We’ll start with not-so-scary stories then make some sinister crafts, play a handful of mysterious games, and gobble up frighteningly yummy snacks! Trick-or-treat inside the Library and play a game to earn your treat! At the end, prizes will be awarded for best costume in different ages categories. A $3 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. Fun for the while family! *Library doors will open at 5:45 pm.* Please register!

Tail Waggin’ Tutors ~ Monday, October 23 from 7:00 — 8:00 pm
Trained therapy dogs will be here hoping to hear a story or two! Practice your reading skills while enjoying the company of some furry friends! Make a fun craft or two while waiting for your turn. For children ages 4 and up — reading ability encouraged but not required. Please register!

Lego Extravaganza Club ~ Wednesday, October 25 from 4:00 — 5:00 pm 
Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us on the last Wednesday of every month! Build whatever you want and when you’re done we’ll put it up on display. For children ages 3 and up. No registration necessary—just show up ready for fun!

We're currently have an open position for a Youth Programming Assistant!

This part-time position (10-12 hours a week, plus 1 - 2 Saturdays a month) will assist Miss Dani, our youth services Librarian, with tween/teen programming as well as family events and other programs for youth, from ages birth through high school, both independently and in cooperation with other staff. Candidates must be available to work afterschool hours (2:30 - 5), evenings and Saturdays as needed and must also have all valid PA employment clearances. Click the links below to learn more!
