Holiday Happenings!

December is full of holiday fun! 
Check out some of our upcoming special seasonal programming!

REGISTRATION FOR GINGERBREAD HOUSE KITS 
IS NOW CLOSED.

Each kit comes with a pre-built "gingerbread" house, a tub of vanilla icing, and assorted candy. 
Please let us know about any food allergies when reserving your kit.

Storytime break and December fun!

Our weekly storytimes will be taking a short break starting November 21. All of our weekly storytimes will resume the first full week of January 2020! Mark your calendars now!
Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays, resuming January 7, 2020 @ 10:30 am & 1:30 pm
Baby Book Nook - Wednesdays, resuming January 8, 2020 @ 10:30 & 11:30 am
TOT Time - Thursdays, resuming January 9, 2020 @ 10:30 am

While we don't offer our weekly storytimes in December, we do offer several wonderful seasonal programs! 

PJ Family Storytime: A Snowy Day - Monday, December 2 @ 7:00 pm - Join us for snowy stories, silly songs, a cool craft, and a delicious snack. Wear your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun! Family program - registration requested but not required. Click HERE to register.

Teen Christmas Cookies & Cards - Thursday, December 5 @ 3:30 pm - Make holiday cards to share joy with local nursing home residents and decorate some cookies to take home! A $2 donation per person is requested and collected at the event. For teens in grades 6 - 12. Registration requested but not required. Click HERE to register.

Annual Family Winter Holiday Celebration - Monday, December 9 @ 6:30 pm - Celebrate the winter holidays in style at the Library! Enjoy games, crafts, and snacks from 6:30 - 7:30. Storytime, complete with a visit from the man in red, will start around 7:30! Don't forget to bring your camera! A $2 donation per child and 1/2 dozen cookies per family is requested and will be collected at the event. Family program - please register! Click HERE to register.

Family Storytime at Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market - Monday, December 16 @ 1:30 pm - Join Ms. Dani in the Fresh Thyme Cafe for stories, songs, a craft, and a delicious snack! This program will take place at Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market located at 665 Clairton Blvd (Route 51). Family program - no registration necessary, just show up ready for fun!

Winter Animals with the Allegheny County Park Rangers - Monday, December 16 @ 6:30 pm - How do local animals adapt to our cold winter climate? Some move away, some sleep through it, and some tough it out! Find out who does what with the Allegheny County Park Rangers as we learn all about local wildlife! Family program - space is limited so please register! Click HERE to register.

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, December 18 @ 4:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us! After we're done, we'll put your creations up on display! For children ages 4 and up - no registration necessary, just show up ready for fun!

Celebrate the Holidays with Barbie - Thursday, December 19 @ 6:00 pm - Susan and Kim Fancsali return to share their extensive Holiday Barbie collection and knowledge! There will also be a fun holiday craft! All ages welcome - space is limited and required. Click HERE to register.

'Tis the Season for READING!

Weekly storytimes are taking a break throughout December but there are TONS of FUN PROGRAMS happening all month long!!!

PJ Family Storytime: Penguin Parade: Monday, December 4 from 7:00 - 7:45 pm - Penguins are parading around inside the Library! Join us for penguin stories, silly songs, a fun craft, and a scrumptious snack! Wear your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun! Fun for the whole family! Please register! 

Painting Bookends: A Holiday Craft for Teens AND Adults: Tuesday, December 5 at 6:00 pm - Looking for a unique handcrafted present? Join us as we paint a set of bookends for the special book lover in your life. A $3 donation per person is requested and will be collected at the event. For teens in grades 6 - 12 AND adults. Please register!

Ornaments Made with Love: Family Ornament Making: Wednesday, December 6 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm - Start a new family tradition by making an ornament together with love! We'll make a few different types that you can use to decorate your home year after year. A $ 2 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. For children ages 2 and up, with a caregiver. Please register!

Perler Bead Ornaments: Wednesday, December 6 from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Design your own holiday ornaments using a variety of brightly colored and even some glow-in-the-dark perler beads! A $2 donation per crafter is requested and will be collected at the event. 
For children and teens in grades 3 and up. Please register!

Teen Games N@ - Thursdays, December 7 & 14 from 3:30 - 4:30 pm - Join us on the first and second Thursday of every month for games, snacks, and an awesome time! Stuff your face with pizza and other delicious snacks while playing a wide variety of board, card, and Wii games with your friends. For teens in grades 6 – 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Annual Family Holiday Party - Monday, December 11 at 6:30 pm - Celebrate the holidays in style at the Library!  Enjoy holiday stories, fun games, cool crafts, delicious snacks, and a special visit from the man in red! A $2 donation per child and ½ dozen cookies to share requested from each family. Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Annual Gingerbread House Workshop - Saturday, December 16 at 11:00 am OR 1:00 pm - Let your creativity run wild while you use a variety of edible materials to decorate a pre-made gingerbread house! A $3 donation per house decorator is requested and will be collected at the event. Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Introduction to Kinderflute - Tuesday, December 19 at 10:30 am - KinderFlute is designed to teach kids how to play flute using fun and games to keep them engaged. Join us for an introductory class with instructor Katie Shesko where kids will learn the basics of music and flute playing. Recommended for children ages 4 - 9. Please register!

Classic Holiday 'Toons - Thursday, December 21 from 3:30 - 4:30 pm - In honor of the upcoming holidays, our Anime club will be watching old school holiday favorites! Enjoy snacks while you get in the holiday spirit! No Grinches allowed! For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, December 27 from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us on the last Wednesday of every month! We'll have Legos you can use but feel free to bring your own. For children ages 3 and up. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Which was Better: Book VS. Movie Family Book Club - Monday, November 27 @ 6:00 pm - Before our meeting, read The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling as a family. At the meeting, we’ll talk about the book and then we’ll watch the movie while snacking on popcorn and punch! After the movie we’ll talk about the similarities and differences, then decide which we liked better. Extra copies of each month’s title will be available for checkout at the circulation desk. Recommended for families with children ages 5 and up. Please register!

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, November 29 @ 4:00 pm -
Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us on the last Wednesday of every month! We'll have Legos you can use but feel free to bring your own. For children ages 3 and up. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017!

2016 is almost over! While we still have a few programs going on in December, we're really gearing up for 2017! Check out eventkeeper for a full list of programs and make sure to check out our January 2017 program newsletter!

The Pleasant Player’s Readers Theater Presents “A Visit of St. Nick” ~Tuesday, December 20 at 6:30 pm ~ Come listen to this fun radio program, first performed in 1939, about the family from Clement Moore’s famous poem! Peek into the lives of a mouse family as they prepare for a special visitor! Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Learn How to Play Chess ~ Thursdays, December 29 from 2:00—3:00 & January 5 from 4:00—5:00 pm ~ Learn the art of chess from a U.S. Candidate Master! David Donohoe will teach us some basic strategy and tactics then we’ll play a few rounds. For children and teens in grades 4 –12. Please register!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We have so many things to be thankful for at the library! We're thankful for books, music, movies, magazines, puzzles, and all our other awesome library materials! We're thankful for our friends and families! We're thankful for our awesome staff! And of course, we're thankful for wonderful patrons like you! 

In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, the library will be closing at 5pm today (Wednesday, November 26) and remain closed through Friday, November 28. We will reopen on Saturday, November 29 at 9 am.

After all the celebrations are done, make sure to check out our awesome upcoming programs!

Teen Talk - Saturday, November 29 at 12:00 pm - Come hang out and stuff your face with pizza while playing games with friends! Bring a friend to join in the fun! For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Let's Get Messy: An Adventure in Art - Saturday, November 29 at 2:00 pm - Explore the wonders of painting without traditional tools in this fun family program! TONIGHT!!! Library Scavenger Hunt - Wednesday, April 16 at 6:30 pm - Help us celebrate National Library Week by participating in a fun scavenger hunt throughout the library! Answer questions to get clues to help you find all the hidden items! Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Recycled Art - Tuesday, April 22 at 4:00 pm - Celebrate Earth Day at the library by exploring art in a whole new way! We’ll turn trash into treasure! What can you make out of trash and recyclables? Feel free to bring a bag of clean recyclables along with you or just use ours! For children in Kindergarten—5th grade. Please register!

Teen Advisory Group (TAG) - Monday, April 28 at 6:30 pm - Are you in need of volunteer hours? Interested in helping design library programs? Want your voice heard? If you answered yes to any of those questions, or perhaps you said no but are looking for something fun to do anyway, be sure to join TAG and be a part of something special. Each participant will receive one hour of community service and have the opportunity to earn more! For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, April 30 at 4:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Join our new Lego Club! We'll meet the last Wednesday of every month and explore different building categories. Holiday Closings and fun times ahead!

The Pleasant Hills Public Library would like to wish you a very HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!!!

In honor of the holidays, the Library will be closed on Wednesday, December 24th and remain closed through Thursday, December 26th. We will reopen on Friday, December 27th! We will also be closed for the New Year holiday on Tuesday, December 31st and Wednesday, January 1st. We will reopen on Thursday, January 2nd!

*Glow Fest - Monday, December 30th from 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Celebrate the New Year a day early! We're going to party in the dark with awesome glowing games, crafts, food, and more! Wear neon or other black light receptive clothing to really shine in the night! For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!
 
*Music Together FREE Family Music Class - Thursday, January 2nd at 6:30 pm - Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood program that for over 25 years has been bringing mixed-age families together to sing, dance, and enjoy making music with other families! In this FREE community class, we'll explore the wonders of making music together! For children ages birth to 5, with a caregiver. It's finally December! Winter is upon us! The holidays are creeping around the bend! Enjoy every moment of the season at the library! Join us for one or more of our fantastic programs happening this month!

Trim the Tree: Handmade Ornaments - Wednesday, December 4th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Learn how to make a plethora of really awesome handmade ornaments you can use to decorate your tree or home! Create unique holiday treasures that can be reused year after year! A $2 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. PLEASE REGISTER!

Deck the Halls: A Family Holiday Celebration - Thursday, December 5th at 6:30 pm - Help us decorate for the holidays! Join in the celebration of the holiday season with crafts, games, music, stories, snacks, and more! We'll even have a special visit from the man in red! Don't miss out on all the holiday fun! Happy Holidays!


The Pleasant Hills Library would like to wish you and your family a very happy and joyous holiday season!

In honor of the holidays, we will be closed on  December 24th and 25th. We will be open from 1:00 - 8:30 pm on Wednesday, December 26th. We will also be closed on December 31st and January 1st.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!




The Pleasant Hills Library Children's Area would like to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!!!

In honor of the holiday, we will be closing early today at 5 pm and remain closed Thursday and Friday, November 22nd and 23rd. We will reopen on Saturday, November 24th at 9 am.

After all the hustle and bustle of the holiday are over, and the last bite of turkey has been gobbled, join us for some fun and engaging programs! The following programs are coming up next week...Don't miss out!

*Teen Talk - Saturday, November 24th at 12:30 pm - Come for pizza, conversation and games! For students in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary.

*PJ Family Storytime - Monday, November 26th at 7:00 pm - Thanksgiving may be over, but we're still hungry! Let's share stories, songs, crafts, and a snack all about our favorite foods! Wear your jammies! Fun for the whole family! Please register.

*Jingle All the Way: A Family Holiday Celebration - Thursday, November 29th at 6:30 pm - Celebrate the Holiday Season with music, crafts, games, snacks, and more! There will even be a special visit from the main man in red himself! Fun for the whole family! A $2 donation is requested - collected at the event. Please register.
