It's almost time for...

There's only a few weeks of school left. The weather's getting warmer by the day. We're getting antsy because...

IT'S ALMOST TIME FOR 
SUMMER READING CLUB!!!!

Starting on Saturday, June 7th, you can earn cool prizes and raffle tickets for even cooler prizes just for reading! We have a summer reading club for ALL AGES and ABILITIES, from newborn babies to fully grown up adults! Check out the descriptions below to decide which club is right for you! And make sure to join us for our annual kick-off celebration at Pleasant Kingdom!!

Summer Reading Kick-Off Celebration @ Pleasant Kingdom - Saturday, June 7th from 1 - 3 pm - Join us for games, craft, and ice cream sundaes in celebration of summer! Sign up for Summer Reading Club while you're there and receive a fun goody bag! Pleasant Kingdom Playground is located behind the Pleasant Hills Borough Building on East Bruceton Road. PLEASE REGISTER!

Summer Reading Club runs from 
June 7th - August 16th!!! 
That's 10 weeks to read and earn cool prizes! 

Fizz! Boom! READ! is especially designed for children from birth to those going into 5th grade. There are three different clubs to suit different ages and reading abilities.
        Little Explorers - A special club for babies and toddlers just learning the joys of reading! Read together to earn weekly prizes!
        Junior Scientists - This club is just right for children not yet reading on their own, or just learning how to read! Every 10 books read together, or on your own, earns you one raffle ticket and you can earn instant prizes for each library visit*!
        Robot Readers - Children reading on their own earn raffle tickets based on time spent reading and instant prizes for each library visit*!


Spark a Reaction is especially designed for teens going into grades 6 - 12. Earn a raffle ticket for every hour spent reading and instant prizes for each library visit*!

Literary Elements is a special summer reading club just for adults! Enjoy weekly drawings and great programs all summer long!

*One instant prize per day          **Winners need not be present at time of raffle drawings.**
 

READERS going into Kindergarten - 5th grade should also check out Questyinz! An online summer reading program that has readers complete fun tasks to earn cyber badges while practicing important educational skills. Stop in the library to pick up your special card that will grant you access into this virtual reading universe that open June 1st!

Although our weekly storytimes are taking a break in the month of May, there's still tons of fun things to do at the library! Make sure to check out one or more of our upcoming programs!
 
 
Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, April 30th & May 28th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Join our Lego club! We're building our way through the alphabet - with a different set of letters each month! We'll have Legos you can use, but feel free to bring your own too! For children ages 3 and up. PLEASE REGISTER!
 
Mom & Me Spa Night - Monday, May 5th from 7:00 - 8:00 pm - Children are invited to bring their favorite woman to the library for an exquisite night of pampering! Try out different types of lotion and do your nails, all while relaxing in a peaceful atmosphere. We'll also make a variety of spa staples that you can enjoy at home. Enjoy refreshments while delighting in each other's company. Expect to feel well rested and beautiful! A $2 donation per pair ($1 for each additional child) is requested. For children ages 6 and up, with an adult. PLEASE REGISTER!
 
Evening Baby Book Nook - Tuesday, May 6th from 7:00 - 7:30 pm - Join us in the evening, once a month, for nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more. For children ages birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.
 
PJ Family Storytime: To Infinity and Beyond - Monday, May 12th from 7:00 - 7:45 pm - Jump in our rocket ship and take a little trip to outer space! We’ll gaze at the stars while listening to stories, singing spacey songs, playing galactic games, and end our adventure with an alien craft and a snack that’s out of this world! Wear your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun. Family Program. PLEASE REGISTER!
 
Chick-fil-A Family Craft Night - Tuesday, May 13th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm - Stop by Chick-fil-A on Route 51 to make a fun craft or two and enjoy a free kids 4 piece nugget or strip meal!* Drop by anytime between 5—7 pm. Fun for the whole family. No registration necessary.
(*Free Kids Meal with purchase of Adult Combo or Entre Salad)
This program will take place at Chick-fil-A Restaurant located at 461 Clairton Blvd (Route 51).
 
Puppet Play - Wednesday, May 14th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Learn how to make a plethora of really neat puppets using everyday objects. Once we’ve made a cast of cool puppets, we’ll make a mobile puppet stage so you can perform at home. For children in Kindergarten—5th Grade. PLEASE REGISTER!

Recycled Art - Tuesday, April 22 at 4:00 pm - Celebrate Earth Day at the library by exploring art in a whole new way! We’ll turn trash into treasure! What can you make out of trash and recyclables? Feel free to bring a bag of clean recyclables along with you or just use ours! For children in Kindergarten—5th grade. Please register!

Teen Advisory Group (TAG) - Monday, April 28 at 6:30 pm - Are you in need of volunteer hours? Interested in helping design library programs? Want your voice heard? If you answered yes to any of those questions, or perhaps you said no but are looking for something fun to do anyway, be sure to join TAG and be a part of something special. Each participant will receive one hour of community service and have the opportunity to earn more! For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

April is finally here!
The weather is finally warming up and we couldn't be more excited! Make sure to check out one (or more!) of our awesome April programs!

Tartan Day Celebration - Thursday, April 10 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm - April is Scottish Heritage Month so join us in the celebrating the wearin' of plaid! Amanda Lazzara, The Piper Lady, will talk about and demonstrate the bag pipes. We'll also have Scottish games, crafts, and food! All nationalities and ages are invited to participate! Please register!
 

Family Egg Hunt Extravaganza - Sunday, April 13 from 3:00 - 4:30 pm - A mischievous bunny has hidden eggs throughout the entire library and we need your help to find them! Join us for games, crafts, snacks, and an extreme egg hunt! Fun for the whole family! A $2 donation per child is requested. Please register!

PJ Family Storytime: Love the Library! - Monday, April 14 from 7:00 - 7:45 pm - What do you love most about our library? We love so many things it's hard to choose just one! Crime Scene Investigators - Wednesday, March 19 @ 6:30 pm - We need 3rd & 4th grade math detectives to help solve a crime! Someone has stolen the statue outside Cinderella's castle in Disneyworld! Police chief Mr. Rockin' Rhodes will be on hand to discuss your assignment. Don't delay - Cinderella is counting on us! For children in 3rd and 4th grade. Please register!

We'll meet the last Wednesday of every month and explore different building categories. We'll have Legos you can use, but feel free to bring your own too! For children ages 3 and up. Please register!

McClellan Library Early Literacy Night - Wednesday, Febrary 26 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Parents of young children in West Jefferson Hills are invited to join reading and language specialists for a special night of learning at McClellan Elementary. Learn strategies for reading to children from birth to age five and how reading affects early language development. Discover which programs at the Pleasant Hills Public Library are available for young children and hear suggestions for great books for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.  Free child care will be provided by the TJHS Interact Club. All are welcome to attend; interested parents need not have a student currently registered at McClellan to attend. *This program will take place at McClellan Elementary, located at 360 School Lane, Pleasant Hills.* Please register!
 
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! - Saturday, March 1 from 12:00 - 3:00 pm - We’re celebrating Read Across America with a special birthday party for Dr. Seuss! Enjoy games, crafts, snacks, and other fun activities from 12:00 — 2:15, with stories read by special guest readers from 2:15 — 3:00. Fun for the whole family!!!

Music Together FREE Family Music Class - Saturday, March 8 from 11:30 - 12:00 pm - SingSteps and the Pleasant Hills Public Library are celebrating "Sing With Your Child Month" with this free family music class. We will be singing and dancing along to songs from the Music Together collection. Space is limited so don’t delay! For children ages birth to 5, with a caregiver. Valentine's Candy Making - Wednesday, February 12th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Almost everyone loves candy! Do you? Learn how to make a variety of simple candies that you can give to your Valentine or keep for yourself! A $2 donation per child is requested. For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Let it Snow! A Preschool STEM Workshop - Thursday, January 30th from 1:30 - 2:30 pm - Discover the science, technology, engineering, and math behind snow! We'll start with a story then explore the wonders of snow through hands-on learning activities! For children ages 2 1/2 to 6 years old, with a caregiver.

Holiday Closings and fun times ahead!

The Pleasant Hills Public Library would like to wish you a very HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!!!

In honor of the holidays, the Library will be closed on Wednesday, December 24th and remain closed through Thursday, December 26th. We will reopen on Friday, December 27th! We will also be closed for the New Year holiday on Tuesday, December 31st and Wednesday, January 1st. We will reopen on Thursday, January 2nd!

Here's a brief highlight of awesome programs coming up that you definitely don't want to miss!
 
*Glow Fest - Monday, December 30th from 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Celebrate the New Year a day early! We're going to party in the dark with awesome glowing games, crafts, food, and more! Wear neon or other black light receptive clothing to really shine in the night! For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!
 
*Music Together FREE Family Music Class - Thursday, January 2nd at 6:30 pm - Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood program that for over 25 years has been bringing mixed-age families together to sing, dance, and enjoy making music with other families! In this FREE community class, we'll explore the wonders of making music together! For children ages birth to 5, with a caregiver.
