Marching right along!

February flew by and now March is too! Goodness gracious! We're excited for the coming of Spring, warm weather, and sunshine! What about you?
 
While you wait for Spring to bloom, make sure to join us for one (or more!) of our exciting programs!

Middle School Book Discussion - Tuesdays, March 18 & April 15 @ 6:00 pm - Bring a favorite book or two for talk and tacos! For students in grades 6 - 12. Please register!

Crime Scene Investigators - Wednesday, March 19 @ 6:30 pm - We need 3rd & 4th grade math detectives to help solve a crime! Someone has stolen the statue outside Cinderella's castle in Disneyworld! Police chief Mr. Rockin' Rhodes will be on hand to discuss your assignment. Don't delay - Cinderella is counting on us! For children in 3rd and 4th grade. Please register!

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesdays, March 26 & April 30 @ 4:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Join our new Lego club! We'll meet the last Wednesday of every month and explore different building categories! We'll have Legos you can use but feel free to bring your own! For children ages 3 and up. Please register!

Teen Advisory Group (TAG) - Mondays, March 31 & April 28 @ 6:30 pm - Are you in need of volunteer hours? Interested in helping design library programs? Want your voice heard? If you answered yes to any of those questions, or perhaps you said no but are looking for something fun to do anyway, be sure to join TAG and be a part of something special. Each participant will receive one hour of community service and have the opportunity to earn more! For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary.

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesdays, February 26 & March 26 from 4:00 - 5:00 - Calling all Lego fans! Join our new Lego club! We'll meet the last Wednesday of every month and explore different building categories. We'll have Legos you can use, but feel free to bring your own too! For children ages 3 and up. Please register!

McClellan Library Early Literacy Night - Wednesday, Febrary 26 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Parents of young children in West Jefferson Hills are invited to join reading and language specialists for a special night of learning at McClellan Elementary. Learn strategies for reading to children from birth to age five and how reading affects early language development. Discover which programs at the Pleasant Hills Public Library are available for young children and hear suggestions for great books for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.  Free child care will be provided by the TJHS Interact Club. All are welcome to attend; interested parents need not have a student currently registered at McClellan to attend. *This program will take place at McClellan Elementary, located at 360 School Lane, Pleasant Hills.* Please register!
 
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! - Saturday, March 1 from 12:00 - 3:00 pm - We’re celebrating Read Across America with a special birthday party for Dr. Seuss! Enjoy games, crafts, snacks, and other fun activities from 12:00 — 2:15, with stories read by special guest readers from 2:15 — 3:00. Fun for the whole family!!!
 
NEW Evening Baby Book Nook - Tuesday, March 4 from 7:00 - 7:30 pm - Nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more! For children birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver.
 
Music Together FREE Family Music Class - Saturday, March 8 from 11:30 - 12:00 pm - SingSteps and the Pleasant Hills Public Library are celebrating "Sing With Your Child Month" with this free family music class. We will be singing and dancing along to songs from the Music Together collection. Space is limited so don’t delay! For children ages birth to 5, with a caregiver. February Fun is Underway!

February snuck up on us here at the library, much like the groundhog and his shadow! We're excited to offer a slew of fun programs to chase those winter blues away!

Valentine's Candy Making - Wednesday, February 12th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Almost everyone loves candy! Do you? Learn how to make a variety of simple candies that you can give to your Valentine or keep for yourself! A $2 donation per child is requested. For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Please register!

Teen Advisory Group (TAG) - Monday, February 24th from 6:30 - 7:30 pm - Are you in need of volunteer hours? Interested in helping design library programs? Want your voice heard? If you answered yes to any of those questions, or perhaps you said no but are looking for something fun to do anyway, be sure to join TAG and be a part of something special! Each participant will receive one hour of community service and have the opportunity to earn more! We will be meeting in the TEEN AREA this month! For students in grades 6 - 12. Chick-fil-A Family Craft Night - Tuesday, January 21st from 5:00 - 7:00 pm - Stop by Chick-fil-A on Route 51 to make a fun craft, play a silly game, and enjoy a free kids 4 piece nugget or strip meal*! Drop by anytime between 5 - 7 pm! (*Free kids meal with purchase of adult combo or entrée salad). This program will take place at Chick-fil-A Restaurant located at 461 Clairton Blvd.* No registration necessary.

Think you have what it takes to win? Bring a friend and find out! For children in 3rd & 4th Grade. Please register!

Let it Snow! A Preschool STEM Workshop - Thursday, January 30th from 1:30 - 2:30 pm - Discover the science, technology, engineering, and math behind snow! We'll start with a story then explore the wonders of snow through hands-on learning activities! For children ages 2 1/2 to 6 years old, with a caregiver.

Holiday Closings and fun times ahead!

The Pleasant Hills Public Library would like to wish you a very HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!!!

In honor of the holidays, the Library will be closed on Wednesday, December 24th and remain closed through Thursday, December 26th. We will reopen on Friday, December 27th! We will also be closed for the New Year holiday on Tuesday, December 31st and Wednesday, January 1st. We will reopen on Thursday, January 2nd!

Here's a brief highlight of awesome programs coming up that you definitely don't want to miss!
 
*Glow Fest - Monday, December 30th from 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Celebrate the New Year a day early! We're going to party in the dark with awesome glowing games, crafts, food, and more! Wear neon or other black light receptive clothing to really shine in the night! For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!
 
*Music Together FREE Family Music Class - Thursday, January 2nd at 6:30 pm - Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood program that for over 25 years has been bringing mixed-age families together to sing, dance, and enjoy making music with other families! In this FREE community class, we'll explore the wonders of making music together! For children ages birth to 5, with a caregiver. December fun!

It's finally December! Winter is upon us! The holidays are creeping around the bend! Enjoy every moment of the season at the library! Join us for one or more of our fantastic programs happening this month!

Trim the Tree: Handmade Ornaments - Wednesday, December 4th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Learn how to make a plethora of really awesome handmade ornaments you can use to decorate your tree or home! Create unique holiday treasures that can be reused year after year! A $2 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. PLEASE REGISTER!

Deck the Halls: A Family Holiday Celebration - Thursday, December 5th at 6:30 pm - Help us decorate for the holidays! Join in the celebration of the holiday season with crafts, games, music, stories, snacks, and more! We'll even have a special visit from the man in red! Don't miss out on all the holiday fun! A $1 donation per child, and a half dozen cookies per family, is requested and will be collected at the event. PLEASE REGISTER!

PJ Family Storytime: Gingerbread Family - Monday, December 9th from 7:00 - 7:45 pm - A gingerbread family is running around inside the library! Can you catch them? Find out with stories, songs, games, a craft, and a yummy snack! Wear your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun! Fun for the whole family! PLEASE REGISTER!

Here at Pleasant Hills Public Library, we're thankful for lots of things!
Good health, delicious food, an excellent community who loves and supports its library, and of course, books and people who love them! What about you?
 
We're also thankful for storytime! Our weekly storytimes will be taking a break in December so make sure to check out the last sessions of 2013! Weekly storytimes will resume the week of January 7, 2014!

Storytime is back!
