New Year, New Programs!

Weekly Storytimes are back!! 
No need to register - just drop in ready for fun!

Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays, starting January 3rd at 10:30 am & 1:30 pm - Explore different themes through stories, songs, a craft, and a snack! For children ages 3 1/2 to 6 years old, with or without a caregiver.

Baby Book Nook - Wednesdays, starting January 4th at 10:30 & 11:30 am - Nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more! For children birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver.

TOT Time - Thursdays, starting January 5th at 10:30 am - Learn and grow with stories, songs, finger plays, fun activities, and a snack! For children ages 2 to 3 1/2 years old, with a caregiver.

No school? Come play at the library!
Building Workshop - Monday, January 16th from 2:30 - 3:30 pm - Build crazy structures using a wide variety of building materials including marshmallows, toothpicks, mini wooden logs, magnetic shapes, and many more! For children ages 3 and up. Please register!

We're starting a NEW BOOK GROUP for FAMILIES!

Which was Better: Book VS. Movie Family Book Club - Monday, January 30th at 6:00 pm - Come be a part of our exciting new book club! Before our first meeting, read Charlotte's Web by E.B. White as a family. We'll talk about the book and then we'll watch the classic cartoon while snacking on popcorn and punch! After the movie we'll decide which we liked better. We'll also talk about all our favorite books and movies so we can pick a title for our next meeting. Extra copies of each month's title are available for checkout at the circulation desk. Recommended for families with children ages 5 and up. Please register!

Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017!

2016 is almost over! While we still have a few programs going on in December, we're really gearing up for 2017! Check out eventkeeper for a full list of programs and make sure to check out our January 2017 program newsletter!

Please note the Library will be closed December 24 - 26. The Library will also be closed December 31 - January 2. The Library may close due to severe inclement weather - please call the Library to make sure it is open during harsh weather.


The Pleasant Player’s Readers Theater Presents “A Visit of St. Nick” ~Tuesday, December 20 at 6:30 pm ~ Come listen to this fun radio program, first performed in 1939, about the family from Clement Moore’s famous poem! Peek into the lives of a mouse family as they prepare for a special visitor! Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Learn How to Play Chess ~ Thursdays, December 29 from 2:00—3:00 & January 5 from 4:00—5:00 pm ~ Learn the art of chess from a U.S. Candidate Master! David Donohoe will teach us some basic strategy and tactics then we’ll play a few rounds. For children and teens in grades 4 –12. Please register!

Our weekly storytimes will be taking a break in December....but don't worry! There's still tons of fun things to do at the library! And our weekly storytimes will resume in the New Year!

The Library will close at 5 pm on Wednesday, November 23. The Library will be closed Thursday & Friday, November 24 & 25. Normal hours resume on Saturday, November 26.

Anime Club - Thursdays, November 17 & December 15 @ 3:30 pm - Are you an anime fan? Join fellow enthusiasts as we watch anime and enjoy Japanese snacks! For students in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

No Bake Thanksgiving - Monday, November 21 @ 4:00 pm - Learn how to make tasty treats that don't require an oven just in time for Thanksgiving! We'll make apple pie in a cup, Nutella banana sushi, and chocolate turkey legs, just to name a few! Sample them while you're here and then take the recipes with you to try it again at home! A $2 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. For children in Kindergarten - 5th grade. Please register!

Let's Get Messy: A Painting Adventure - Monday, November 28 @ 2:30 pm - Explore the wonders of painting with non-traditional tools in this unique all ages program! Create multiple masterpieces with scented finger paint and unique painting tools such as toothbrushes, marbles, and cotton balls! Fun for the whole family! Please register!

Chick-fil-A Family Craft Night - Tuesday, November 29 @ 5:00 pm - Stop by Chick-fil-A on Route 51 to make a fun craft or two and enjoy a free kids 4 piece nugget or strip meal*! Drop by anytime between 5:00 - 7:00 pm. (*Free kids meal with purchase of adult combo or entree salad). This program will take place at Chick-fil-A Restaurant located at 461 Clairton Blvd (Route 51). Fun for the whole family! No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesdays, November 30 & December 28 @ 4:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Come build with us on the last Wednesday of every month! Build whatever you want and when you're done, we'll put it up on display! *The November meeting will meet outside the program room! Look for signs!* For children ages 3 and up. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Celebrate Teen Read Week, October 10 - 15, with a different fun and exciting make-n-take in the teen department every day!

Time for back to school...

...but it's always time for FUN at the Library! Make sure to check out our program newsletter for all our awesome upcoming programs and events!!


This September, show your love for your library!
Thanks to the generous support of the Jack Buncher Foundation, donations made to PLEASANT HILLS PUBLIC LIBRARY throughout the month of September will be MATCHED! This September, libraries across Allegheny County are inviting residents to participate in a special fundraising collaboration to show support for their local library & encouraging residents to show their library love by investing in their libraries. Donate by check, cash, or online through the Library’s website: www.pleasanthillslibrary.org

September is also National Library Card Sign Up Month! Children signing up for their first library card will receive a fun goody bag! Stop at the front desk to learn more!

During the month of September, receive a raffle ticket for every children’s and family program you attend and enter to win one of ten pairs of tickets to either the Citizens Bank Children’s Theater Series or the EQT Bridge Theater Series! This contest runs from September 1—30, 2016.

Popular children’s book characters will be hidden throughout the children’s department during September. Find all of them to earn a small prize! See a staff member downstairs for more details.
When you check out your items upstairs, see if you can find our “Love Your Library” Bear to earn a small prize. See a staff member upstairs for more details.

SUMMER READING CLUB HAS STARTED!!!!



Summer Reading Club started June 4th and runs for 10 weeks, ending August 13th! That's 10 weeks to read and earn awesome prizes!!! We have a reading club for EVERY AGE and READING ABILITY, from babies through adults!

Readers in Training is perfect for babies and toddlers! Read together every day, share a rhyme or song, and visit the library to earn your prize! Complete at least six weeks to earn a board book! Visit the library to see the complete list of prizes.

Varsity Listeners is for children not yet reading on their own OR just learning how to read. Every 10 books that you read or listen to earns you a raffle ticket! Raffle tickets can be used towards any of our awesome weekly raffles. Visit the library to see the complete list of prizes. Also earn an instant prize for each library visit! (Only one instant prize per day)

Olympic Readers is for children reading confidently on their own, up through those going into 5th grade. Earn a raffle ticket for every hour spent reading! Raffle tickets can be used towards any of our awesome weekly raffles. Visit the library to see the complete list of prizes. Also earn an instant prize for each library visit! (Only one instant prize per day)


Get in the Game...READ! is for teens going into grades 6 - 12. Earn a raffle ticket for every hour spent reading! Raffle tickets can be used towards any of our awesome weekly raffles. It's not too late for fun!

There's still time to sign up and be a part of our Stuffed Animal Sleepover happening THIS WEEKEND!!! 
Drop-off your beloved stuffed animal friend anytime during normal operating hours (10am - 4pm) on Friday, May 13th in the Children's Department. Return on Saturday, May 14th at 11:30 am for a joyous reunion filled with stories, songs, crafts, and delicious breakfast snacks! A $2 donation per person is requested at drop-off.

Angry Birds Battle - Monday, May 16 from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - The movie is coming out soon so let's prepare by having our own Angry Birds battle in the library! Work in teams or on your own to construct a tower. Then see if you can knock down your opponents' tower! Feel free to bring recyclables to help in the construction of your tower. For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Please register!

Taco Tuesday: Teen Book Discussion - Tuesday, May 17 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Bring a friend or two and join Miss Terry for lively discussion and delicious snacks! This month we'll be reading Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Request your copy at the circulation desk. For teens in grades 6 - 12. Please register!

We'll sample various teas, enjoy dainty snacks, play a silly game or two, and even make a fun craft! A $5 donation per person is requested and will be collected at the event. All ages welcome! Drop your stuffed friends off in the Children's Department during normal operating hours on Friday and come back Saturday to see what kind of mischief they got into! We'll celebrate the reunion with stories, songs, crafts, and
