SUMMER'S ALMOST HERE!!!!!

The weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer. School's almost over....it's ALMOST SUMMER! Which means, it's ALMOST time for SUMMER READING CLUB!

Join us on Saturday, June 8th  from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the Pleasant Kingdom Playground for our awesome, annual, all-ages SUMMER READING CLUB KICK-OFF! Celebrate the kick-off of Summer Reading Club with games, crafts, and ice cream sundaes! Sign up for Summer Reading Club while you’re there and receive a fun goody bag! There’s a program for every age and reading ability! Pleasant Kingdom Playground is located on East Bruceton Road, behind the Pleasant Hills Borough Building.
 
Summer Reading Club runs June 8th - August 10th, 2013
Dig Into Reading is for children from birth through students going into 5th grade.
          Wiggling Worms - A special club for babies and toddlers just learning the joys of reading! Read together to earn weekly prizes!
          Junior Diggers - Children not yet reading on their own, or just learning to read, will want to join this club! Read together to earn raffle tickets and instant prizes for each library check-in!
          Earth Explorers - Children reading on their own earn raffle tickets based on time spent reading and instant prizes for each library check-in!
 
Beneath the Surface is for teens going into grades 6 - 12. Earn raffle tickets for each book you read between June 8th and August 10th! Raffle tickets can then be used towards a variety of awesome prizes that will be chosen weekly throughout the summer! Also, earn instant prizes every time you check-in at the Pleasant Hills Public Library! Prizes range from signed comic books to gift cards for local businesses and everything in between!

 
Groundbreaking Reads is a summer reading club special for adults! Parents, did you know that your kids model your reading habits? Show them how much fun summer reading can be by participating in weekly drawings and great programs!

**Winners need not be present at time of drawings. **
Returning this year...Questyinz! An online summer reading program that has readers complete tasks, have fun, and earn cyber badges while practicing important educational skills. Open to students going into Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Stop by the library to pick up your special card that will grant you access into this virtual reading universe that opens June 1st!

We have so many new books, we don't know what to do!

Our new book shelves are overflowing with fantastic new reads for children of all ages! We have a plethora of new picture books, easy readers, beginning chapter books, graphic novels, fiction and non-fiction titles on a variety of topics to choose from! Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Have you ever wondered what your stuffed animal friends do while you're asleep?
 
Wonder no more...and join us for our
Stuffed Animal Sleepover
Drop-off: Friday, May 3rd from 10 am - 4 pm
Pick-up Storytime & Breakfast: Saturday, May 4th from 10:30 - 11:30 am
 
Drop your stuffed animal friends off in the Children's Department during normal operating hours on Friday and come back Saturday morning to see what kind of mischief they got into! We'll celebrate the reunion with stories, songs, crafts, and a scrumptious breakfast!
 
A $2 donation per child is requested - collected at drop-off.
Please register! Space is limited!
 
Can't make it in on Friday before 4 pm?!?

May Children, Teen, and Family Programs!

May is full of fun things to do at the Pleasant Hills Public Library!

Preschool Yoga is back! New day, same time!
Tuesday, April 23rd - May 28th from 1:30 - 2:15 pm
Wear comfy clothes to stretch and unwind while learning fun yoga poses perfect for little bodies! Class runs for six weeks - come to one or all of the sessions! Please bring a large towel or yoga mat with you. Classes will be taught by Alicia Parenti, certified yoga instructor. For children ages 3 - 6 years old, with or without a caregiver. Please register - space is limited!
 
After School Adventures continue!
For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Please register - space is limited!
Stamp Art - Wednesday, May 8th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Almost anything can be turned into a stamp! Learn how to make your own stamps using unconventional materials! Using our new stamps, we'll create beautiful cards just in time for Mother's Day!
 
Clay-tastic! - Wednesday, May 22nd from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Using just a few simple ingredients, you can make your own clay! Together we'll make a few different types of clay and then sculpt them into interesting creations! A $1 donation per child is requested - collected at the event.

One Book Every Young Child

In an effort to highlight the importance of early literacy, we are proud to be a part of
One Book Every Young Child.
 
Throughout the month of April, children all over the state of Pennsylvania will enjoy Suzanne Bloom's The Bus for Us, a delightful picture book about an excited child waiting for the bus to school for the very first time. 
 
Join us tonight (Monday, April 1st) from 7:00 - 7:45 pm for a special storytime celebrating transportation!
We'll share stories, sing songs, play games, make a craft, and enjoy a delicious snack on the go! Everyone who attends will receive a special One Book Every Young Child bookmark! Fun for the whole family!

Happy Easter!

In honor of the Easter holiday, the library will be closed Friday March 29th, Saturday March 30th, and Sunday March 31st.

Important Updates for the Family Egg Hunt Extravaganza!!!



 
Our Family Egg Hunt Extravaganza is filling up fast! If you're planning on coming, please register no later than Thursday, March 21st!! Registration will close when the library closes on Thursday (8:30 pm) so that we may adequately prepare for all the fun and amazing things that will happen on Sunday, March 24th from 2:00 - 3:30 pm!!!
 
To help cover expenses, we're asking for a $2 donation, per child, that will be collected at the event.
 
Please note that our Egg Hunt Extravaganza is an after-hours library program. This means that the library doors will be locked until 1:45 pm. Doors will also be relocked at 2:15 and remain locked throughout the duration of the program. Don't worry, you can leave at any time, you just can't come back without being let in (which we'll happily do! Knock loudly!). Plan on arriving as close to 2:00 pm as possible.

April showers bring...fun programs at PHL!

It may be raining and grey outside, but inside the library fun things are happening!
 
Weekly storytimes will run through April 11th. There will be no weekly storytimes during the month of May. Weekly storytimes will resume the first week in June.

March Fun!

Although we're approaching the middle of March, there's still tons of fun things happening at the library that you won't want to miss!

After School Adventures continue with two fun sessions this month!
For children in Kindergarten - 5th grade. Please register!
 
Green Fun - Wednesday, March 13th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - March is all about the color green! Let's explore the many shades of green through art and science activities! We might get a little messy so please wear appropriate painting attire. A $1 donation, per child, is requested and will be collected at the event.

Paper Flowers - Wednesday, March 20th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Spring is finally here! Let's celebrate by using origami techniques to create a bouquet of beautiful flowers that will last forever! We'll also create a sampling of origami animals that wake up in the Spring!

We have programs that promise to be fun for the whole family!
 
Family Egg Hunt Extravaganza - Sunday, March 24th from 2:00 - 3:30 pm - A mischievous bunny has hidden eggs throughout the entire library and we need your help to find them!
