New Year, New Programs!

Happy New Year!!!!
 

The library will be closed Wednesday, December 31st and Thursday, January 1st in observance of the New Year. Normal operating hours will resume Friday, January 2nd.

Weekly storytimes are back!!!
To celebrate, we're giving away 10 pairs of tickets for the 2015 Pittsburgh International Children's Theater Family Series. Earn a raffle ticket for each child who attends a children's program from January 5 - 15. Drawings will be held on January 8 & 15. Winner need not be present at time of drawing.

Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays, starting January 6 @ 10:30 am & 1:30 pm -  Explore different themes through stories, songs, a craft, and a snack! For children ages 3 1/2 - 6 years old, with or without a caregiver.

Baby Book Nook - Wednesdays, starting January 7 @ 10:30 am - Nursery and action rhymes, books, songs, and so much more! For children ages birth - 2 years old, with a caregiver.

TOT Time - Thursdays, starting January 8 @ 10:30 am - Learn and grow with stories, songs, finger plays, fun activities, and a snack! For children ages 2 - 3 1/2 years old, with a caregiver.

No registration necessary for weekly storytimes - just drop in ready for fun!

Family Game Night - Monday, January 5 @ 7:00 pm - We're getting out all our favorite games, from classic board games to silly card games and even our favorite Wii games too! Bring the whole family for an exciting night of gaming at the library!

Evening Baby Book Nook - Tuesday, January 6 @ 7:00 pm - Join Miss Terry in the evening for books and so much more! For children ages birth - 2 years old, with a caregiver.

PJ Family Storytime: Curious George Celebrates - Monday, January 12 @ 7:00 pm - Curious George wants to help us celebrate our 70th anniversary with stories about curious little monkeys, silly songs, fun games, an awesome craft, and a scrumptious snack! Wear your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun! Fun for the whole family!
Anime Club - Thursday, January 15 @ 4:00 pm - Do you enjoy anime and manga? Then you won't want to miss our fun NEW anime club! Come watch anime, enjoy Japanese snacks, and talk with fellow enthusiasts! For students in grades 6 - 12.

Happy Holidays!

The Pleasant Hills Public Library will be closed Wednesday, December 24 - Friday, December 26 in observance of Christmas. The Library will also be closed Wednesday, December 31 - Thursday, January 1 in observance of New Years. Have a safe and happy holiday season!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We have so many things to be thankful for at the library! We're thankful for books, music, movies, magazines, puzzles, and all our other awesome library materials! We're thankful for our friends and families! We're thankful for our awesome staff! And of course, we're thankful for wonderful patrons like you! 

In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, the library will be closing at 5pm today (Wednesday, November 26) and remain closed through Friday, November 28. We will reopen on Saturday, November 29 at 9 am.

After all the celebrations are done, make sure to check out our awesome upcoming programs!

Teen Talk - Saturday, November 29 at 12:00 pm - Come hang out and stuff your face with pizza while playing games with friends! Bring a friend to join in the fun! For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary - just show up ready for fun!

Let's Get Messy: An Adventure in Art - Saturday, November 29 at 2:00 pm - Explore the wonders of painting without traditional tools in this fun family program! Get out of the house after a long holiday and let loose with scented finger paint, squishy goo, and unique painting tools such as toothbrushes and cotton balls! Fun for the whole family! Please register!

The first week in December also happens to be our last week of storytimes in 2014! Don't miss out on all the fun!

Preschool STEM: Sort, Count, Weigh It Out - Monday, November 17 at 3:15 pm - Explore science, technology, engineering, and mathmatics  with stories and hands-on experiments designed to engage young minds. For children ages 2- 5, with a caregiver.

Chick-fil-A Family Craft Night - Tuesday, November 18 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm - Stop by Chick-fil-A on Route 51 to make a fun craft or two and enjoy a free kids 4 piece nugget or strip meal*! Drop by anytime between 5 - 7 pm. Fun for the whole family! This program will take place at Chick-fil-A Restaurant located at 461 Clairton Blvd (route 51). *Free kids meal with purchase of adult combo or entree salad. No registration necessary.

Taco Tuesday: Middle School Book Group - Tuesday, November 18 at 6:00 pm - This month we'll be discussing The Grey King by Susan Cooper. Bring a book you are thankful for and are willing to swap along with a friend or two for lively discussion and delicious snacks! Request your copy of this month's selection at the circulation desk. For teens in grades 6 - 8. 

T-Shirt Design - Thursday, November 20 at 4:00 pm - Bring a blank t-shirt or tote bag and we'll provide all the tools and decorations you need to turn it into something awesome! For children in Kindergarten - 5th Grade.

TAG - Monday, November 24 at 6:30 pm - Are you in need of volunteer hours? Interested in helping design library programs? If so, be sure to join TAG and be a part of something special! Each participant will receive one hour of community service and have the opportunity to earn more!  For teens in grades 6 - 12. No registration necessary.

Evan Gealy, local artist, will present a demonstration on pumpkin carving techniques and provide jack o' lantern patterns along with tips and suggestions for doing your own carving! Summer Reading may be over, but the fun doesn't stop!

Whew! What a busy summer! Summer Reading was a complete success! Thanks to all who participated! You guys did a fantastic job reading!!!!

Now that Summer Reading Club is over, the library is a little quieter but the fun doesn't stop! Check out some of our awesome upcoming programs!!

Summer Reading is in full swing!

Summer Reading is in it's third week, but don't worry, it runs through August 16th. It's not too late to register and earn prizes for reading this summer! We have a reading club for EVERY AGE and READING ABILITY!!!
Fizz! Boom! READ! is especially designed for children from birth to those going into 5th Grade. There are three different clubs to suit different ages and reading abilities. Pick whichever suits you...
Little Explorers - A special club for babies and toddlers just learning the joys of reading! Read together to earn weekly prizes.
Junior Scientists - This club is just right for children not yet reading on their own, or just learning how to read. Read together to earn raffle tickets and instant prizes for each library visit*!
Robot Readers - Children reading on their own earn raffle tickets based on time spent reading and instant prizes for each library visit*!

Spark a Reaction is especially designed for teens going into grades 6 - 12. Earn a raffle ticket for every hour spent reading and instant prizes for each library visit*!

*One instant prize per day     **Winners need not be present at time of raffle drawings.**

Literary Elements is a special summer reading club just for adults! Enjoy weekly drawings and great programs!

SUMMER READING CLUB!!!!

Starting on Saturday, June 7th, you can earn cool prizes and raffle tickets for even cooler prizes just for reading! We have a summer reading club for ALL AGES and ABILITIES, from newborn babies to fully grown up adults! Check out the descriptions below to decide which club is right for you! And make sure to join us for our annual kick-off celebration at Pleasant Kingdom!!

Summer Reading Kick-Off Celebration @ Pleasant Kingdom - Saturday, June 7th from 1 - 3 pm - Join us for games, craft, and ice cream sundaes in celebration of summer! Sign up for Summer Reading Club while you're there and receive a fun goody bag! Pleasant Kingdom Playground is located behind the Pleasant Hills Borough Building on East Bruceton Road. PLEASE REGISTER!

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, April 30th & May 28th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Calling all Lego fans! Join our Lego club! We're building our way through the alphabet - with a different set of letters each month! We'll have Legos you can use, but feel free to bring your own too! For children ages 3 and up. PLEASE REGISTER!
 
Mom & Me Spa Night - Monday, May 5th from 7:00 - 8:00 pm - Children are invited to bring their favorite woman to the library for an exquisite night of pampering! Try out different types of lotion and do your nails, all while relaxing in a peaceful atmosphere. We'll also make a variety of spa staples that you can enjoy at home. Enjoy refreshments while delighting in each other's company. Expect to feel well rested and beautiful! A $2 donation per pair ($1 for each additional child) is requested. For children ages 6 and up, with an adult. PLEASE REGISTER!
 
Evening Baby Book Nook - Tuesday, May 6th from 7:00 - 7:30 pm - Join us in the evening, once a month, for nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more. For children ages birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.
 
PJ Family Storytime: To Infinity and Beyond - Monday, May 12th from 7:00 - 7:45 pm - Jump in our rocket ship and take a little trip to outer space! We’ll gaze at the stars while listening to stories, singing spacey songs, playing galactic games, and end our adventure with an alien craft and a snack that’s out of this world! Wear your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun. Family Program. PLEASE REGISTER!
